A native of Albania, Gjilberta Lucaj began cello studies at age ve. At age thirteen she won the National Young Artist Competition. As a result, she was the youngest student ever to be chosen to tour in Italy with the Shkoder Symphony Orchestra. e highlights of the tour included playing for Pope John Paul II and receiving a full scholarship om the Padova Conservatorio DI Musica. Under a full scholarship, Gjilberta went on to attend the Music Conservatory at SUNY Purchase College, Mannes College of music and the Juilliard School in Manhattan and most recently, Gjilberta also received a Masters in Music Education om the Steinhardt School of Education at NYU. She was coached and worked closely with eminent cellists such as the multi-Grammy winner Peter Wiley (Beaux Arts Trio, Guarnieri Quartet), Andre Emiliano (Juilliard) and Yo-Yo Ma. Member of Monticelli Trio since 2009, New Jersey Philharmonic Orchestra and most recently a member of Piazzolla Trio, which was the chosen trio among world entries to o cially represent the music of the king of tango, Astor Piazzolla. Toured extensively in Mexico, China, South Korea, Europe and recently was invited by the US Embassy and the Ministry Of Higher Education in Afghanistan to perform and teach in Kabul, Afghanistan. Gjilberta also recently was the only artist invited to perform for the Vice President, Joe Biden. An avid supporter of Children’s Charities she has performed and raised over 20.000 books, musical instruments and school supplies for underprivileged children in Albania and Mexico. Performs frequently in Isaac Stern Auditorium, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center and all over the USA. Recorded music for Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Ricky Martin to name a few. Her playing has been described by the media as: superb mastery of the instrument ethereal performance and truly moving performer. Most recently she’s composing and recording music on two SAG feature lines.
